Truth is the casualty of week’s top news

What a week it has been.  A look at Friday evening’s AC360 clues you in on all that has been happening.

Pilots overshoot an airport in Minneapolis, their destination, and no one knows what was happening within the cockpit for an hour and a half.  No one heard a word from them during that time and the speculation is they were asleep in the cockpit.

Balloon boy“, meanwhile, was soaring the skies across the same Midwestern United States, or at least we were led to believe he was, especially from the constant calls for help we heard from his parents during that time.  Turns out he really was asleep, up in his attic, until he came bored and revealed his whereabouts to frenzied searchers.

In Texas, Governor Rick Perry in 2004 was evidently made aware of the doubts surrounding the guilt of a convicted arsonist, but failed to act, allowing the man to be put to death.  Doubts have now arisen as to the man’s guilt or innocence, and Perry, focused only on his reelection, is trying to block any sincere investigation into the death.

Finally, we have President Barack Obama announcing war on Fox News, a war that Barack will not win, no matter how sincere or better suited he may be for trust from the American public.  There is a segment of the population that will always find fault with whatever Barack does, just as there was a segment that put Jesus to death.

Not to draw any comparison s between Barack and Jesus.  The comparison is actually between a public that has been consistent in his behavior from the times of Christ until modern day.  The true victim is truth and the search for it.

In all the events listed above, truth is the casualty.  What really happened in the cockpit?  We do not really know, and we probably never will, because the pilots are not going to volunteer the information, and they are the only source we have.

What really happened with “Balloon Boy”? Now, we are finding out it was a hoax, a planned hoax by his parents, particularly his father who lusted after marketability and fame.

Did an innocent man get put to death in Texas?  We will probably never know, but the question now is whether the sitting governor will allow a TRUE investigation into finding out, or will he try to block one for the sake of political survival and avoiding personal embarassment.

Is Fox News biased against President Obama?  In actuality, most likely the answer is “yes.”  In much the same way that MSNBC fawns over the Prsident and is biased in support of him.  Yet each network thinks they are pushing their own version of the truth.  Let it be, and let viewers decide their own reactions.  If you want to counter Fox’ public relations, do so we public relations of your own, rather than declaring a war you cannot win.

Truth.  In everything we do, and everything we say, it seems to take a backseat to “getting things done.”  Except on Sunday mornings, in the confines of our churches, when we pretend otherwise.  Even then, we sometimes allow too much of the world to intrude upon God rather than the other way around.

May God help us.  - George Curcio
